Quitman school property tax rate proposed to fall six cents
The Quitman school board is proposing a property tax rate more than six cents lower than last year.
The board will meet Monday, Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. to consider the budget and the proposed property tax rate to fund it.
Last year’s rate was $1.14812 per $100 of property value and the proposal is $1.0843.
Broken down that includes $0.9429 for maintenance and operations and $0.1414 for debt service. The savings includes about 3.6 cents on maintenance and operations and almost three cents for debt service.
The average market value of residences in the district rose from $134,211 last year to $155,818 this year.
With the lower tax rate, the average homeowner would save about $65.
