After taking a 7-6 win over Wood County rival Alba-Golden on Tuesday, the Quitman Bulldogs competed at the Frankston Tournament.

During the tournament the Bulldogs defeated Cumberland Academy 6-1. Quitman opened the scoring in the first inning when a sacrifice bunt by Dalton Crowson gave them a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 4-0 lead.

Carson Dickens got the win, striking out three and holding Cumberland to four hits. The Bulldogs had eight hits led by Landon Richey and Mason Reynolds who each had a pair.

The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a 6-2 loss to Corsicana Mildred. The Bulldogs led 2-0 going into the fourth inning when Mildred scored all six runs.

Richey pitched well allowing no hits or runs and striking out six batters. Tommy Drinkwine came on in relief. Bulldog pitching held Mildred to just two hits, but six errors led to the Mildred win.

The Bulldogs fell 13-6 to Pollock Central in a game where Central was able to get six hits, but Quitman’s five errors proved costly for the Bulldogs.

Earlier in the week, Quitman hosted Alba-Golden, scoring seven runs on six hits while holding the Panthers to six runs on four hits. Quitman led 7-0 until the Panthers scored four runs in the fourth and two runs in the top of the seventh to close the gap.

Reynolds got the win, allowing no hits and striking out five Panthers. Caleb Hamby and Dickens entered the game from the bull pen to secure the victory. Hamby recorded the final seven outs to earn the save. Hamby and Reynolds also had two hits each.

Quitman was set to open district action Tuesday at Mt. Vernon.
