A Quitman woman died and her granddaughter was injured in a traffic crash near Golden Monday afternoon.

According to Dept. of Public Safety Sgt. Adam Albritton, Dorothy Goodson, 83, was eastbound on FM 779 at US Hwy. 69, known as Kelly’s Corner.

She was stopped at the stop sign and failed to yield right-of-way to a truck-tractor that was southeast bound on Hwy. 69.

The truck driver, Douglas Kesler, 58, of Sulphur Springs, was uninjured.

Vivian Crabtree, 21, of Quitman, was a passenger in Goodson’s Dodge Dakota pickup and was taken to a Tyler hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

The area is a construction zone for an overpass to be built, primarily due to multiple fatality crashes at the intersection. The $38 million project is scheduled to be completed in August 2026.
