Recent voter turnout low
Recent city and school elections May 1 in Wood County were decided by a relative handful of voters.
Barely 10% of the 2,720 registered voters in Mineola, 275, decided the new mayor, Jayne Lankford, by a 150-125 count.
There were 458 votes cast in the Mineola school board election, with winning totals of 285 for Robbie Ballard and 260 for Jay McGough. There are 6,466 registered voters in the district for a seven percent turnout.
City of Quitman elections were decided with a count of 119-65 to reelect Mayor Randy Dunn of a total 1,218 registered voters. The top vote getter for city council, Brad Medlin, had 183 votes. David Dobbs was reelected with 105.
The Quitman ISD vote drew winning totals of 269, 243 and 183 for the incumbents, Jeremy Smith, Royce Patterson and Michael Hipp. The district has 5,996 registered voters.
Alba-Golden ISD has 4,310 registered voters, and the incumbents, Grant Sadler and Mike Ragsdale, received 148 and 110 votes, respectively to gain reelection.
The top vote getter among four candidates for Yantis ISD drew 64 votes. The district has 2,852 registered voters.
