Roger Dale Gunter, 74, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020.

Roger was born on Nov. 29, 1946 to parents Joseph (Joe) Gunter and Louise Malone in Jacksonville. He served overseas in the U.S. Air Force and spent many years working in the custom home industry. Roger loved being outdoors, riding horses and sipping morning coffee on his beautiful cedar deck, where he watched baby foxes, deer and the wonders of nature roam by.

Roger always lived life on his own terms. He enjoyed taking long road trips with the truck windows down, rose-tinted aviators on and no planned return date, to visit his daughters and grandkids living across states. These trips would sometimes take weeks, as he made sure to stop and explore every town along the way. He always said that he could never get enough of the fresh, outdoor air.

Roger moved to Lake Quitman three years ago, just a stone’s throw from the calm and beautiful water. He lived the remainder of his life there alongside the companionship of his good friend and cousin, Vicky Flint. His family and friends will miss him tremendously but are comforted in knowing that he now has all the fresh air that he could ever want.

He is survived by his daughters, Jody Moffett of Thornton, Colo., Christy Reidsma of Stafford Va., Dezerra Gunter of Houston and Jessica Gunter of Garland; siblings, Peggy Lawley, Nelda Smith, Bobby Joe Gunter and Ken Gunter; grandchildren, Logan Reidsma and Tonee Moffett; as well as many other family members and friends.

Roger is joining his mother, father and sister Wanda in Heaven, where we all will see them again someday.

Graveside service for Roger will be held Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020 at Creagleville Cemetery in Grand Saline at 1 p.m.
