Second half surge sinks Lady Panthers
The Alba-Golden Lady Panthers fell to Jewett Leon 49-40 in the bidistrict basketball playoff last Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Eustace.
Though Alba-Golden managed a 23-22 lead at halftime, a quick surge to open the third quarter by Jewett Leon turned the tide, and the Lady Panthers couldn’t quite regain the lead.
The Lady Cougars ran off six points to lead 28-23 and never relinquished control.
Alba-Golden kept it close the rest of the way.
Jewett Leon led 38-31 after three quarters.
The Lady Panthers pulled within three points with the first two baskets of the fourth quarter, but could get no closer.
The final margin proved to be Jewett Leon’s largest lead.
Only three Lady Panthers scored.
Joecey Lewers kept Alba-Golden in the game in the first quarter with four straight threes on her way to 17 points.
Alexis Wilmut worked her way to the foul line four times, making all eight free throws.
Lainey Teel recorded the remaining 15 points, all after the first quarter.
