Sheriff's deputy killed in traffic crash

A Wood County Sheriff’s deputy has died in an on-duty traffic crash. Melissa Pollard died shortly after her department vehicle slammed into the back of a truck-tractor, semi-trailer on State Hwy. 37 at FM 14 between Quitman and Winnsboro Wednesday morning.

The truck was turning left onto FM 14 when Pollard’s patrol vehicle hit it without braking. She died soon after at the Quitman hospital.

Pollard joined the Wood County Sheriff’s Dept. in 2016 and previously served in Fannin and Collin Counties.

A gofundme account has been established to assist the family.

A candlelight vigil is planned Monday at 8 p.m. at the sheriff's office in Quitman.

Funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Green Acres Baptist Church,, 1607 Troup Hwy, Tyler, TX.
