State took five years to remove traffic signal
Mineola city officials unearthed the letter that the city received concerning the recent removal of the traffic light at U.S. Hwy. 80 and Line St.
In a letter dated Aug. 23, 2017, the Texas Dept. of Transportation informed the city that traffic lights are periodically reevaluated, and “the conditions to warrant a traffic control signal are no longer warranted at U.S. 80 and Line St.”
The light’s removal was just completed on Dec. 21, 2022.
“To further emphasize its removal, the signal poses shock hazards due to the deterioration of the wire when state personnel attempt to perform activities,” the letter continued.
It also referenced planned improvements to the signal one block to the east at Johnson St.
