Still no funding for Hwy. 69 overpass near Golden
All the right-of-way has been secured for an overpass on US Hwy. 69 over FM 779 just east of Golden.
But the $31.25 million project has yet to be funded by the Texas Dept. of Transportation (TxDOT).
The project is aimed at improving safety at the intersection of the two highways, which is governed by a flashing yellow light for Hwy. 69 traffic and a stop sign for FM 779 traffic, as well as a lower speed limit of 60 MPH on Hwy. 69.
Sixteen parcels have been secured, along the south side of Hwy. 69, a distance of about two miles – one mile in either direction from the intersection – and about 100 feet wide.
The project will take Hwy. 69 over FM 779 which will remain at grade level, with north and south bound exits.
Right-of-way acquisition began in late 2018 and concluded early last year, county tax records show.
The parcels encompass about 26 acres, ranging from just under a quarter acre to more than nine acres.
Since the project has not been funded it does not appear on TxDOT bid-letting schedules.
