Tips for Tots and hay show raise money to assist county’s youth
Support Wood County youth with a pair of important events next week.
The 10th annual Tips for Tots benefiting the Wood County Child Welfare and Protection Board is Monday, Sept. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Winnsboro Civic Center.
The 59th annual Mineola Hay Show benefiting the Mineola High School agriculture program is Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the Mineola Civic Center.
This marks the second year for Tips for Tots to be held in Winnsboro, after many years at Lake Fork.
The event raises money for the child welfare board, which serves the foster children of the county, including the Rainbow Room in Quitman.
Following a catered meal by Seth’s Lake Fork Creek for $25, there will be a live auction at 6:30 p.m.
Celebrity waiters will also be working for tips, and there will be raffle items.
The Hay Show began in 1967 and has grown to be one of the most successful, as well as one of the oldest in the nation.
Some 30 hay lots will be auctioned along with other items, and many door prizes will be given away. More than 100 entries were received this year, one of the highest number ever entered.
For the second year, the show will also announce the winners of the hay bale decorating contest.
Winners of the Hay Show scholarships will also be recognized.
