Three Quitman Lady Bulldog power lifters are heading  to state competition at the Corpus Christi Convention Center this week. Brooklyn Marcee, Caitlynn Barnett and Bailey Hughes will represent Quitman at the girl’s state meet.

The girl’s power lifting team from Quitman came in second overall in regional competition at Rice High School recently. The state meet is being held in Corpus Christi this year after being in Waco for many years. It was decided that the state meet would alternate locations in geographic areas each year.

New Quitman Athletic Director Shane Webber is excited for the ladies.

“The weigh-in is Wednesday and they lift Thursday in Corpus. It is good to see our girls compete, and these girls not only compete in power lifting, but in all different sports,” Webber noted. “It’s not just a one sport deal; I’m very proud of them, this is a big deal.”

In the 97-pound weight class, Barnett was first in the region with lifts totaling 520 pounds, including 190 pounds in the squat, 100 bench press and 230 deadlift.

Hughes was second in the 198 class with 825 total pounds, including 345 squat, 170 bench and 310 dead lift.

Marcee was also second in the region and lifted 695 pounds in the 123 class with lifts of 280 squat, 155 bench and 260 dead lift.
