Turn out low for state primary runoffs
Less than 9% of registered voters in Wood County returned to the polls last Tuesday for the party primary runoff election.
Some 2,838 votes were cast by 32,91 registered voters, with the large majority cast in the Republican primary.

Turn out low for state primary runoffs
Less than 9% of registered voters in Wood County returned to the polls last Tuesday for the party primary runoff election.
Some 2,838 votes were cast by 32,91 registered voters, with the large majority cast in the Republican primary.
The county gave 80% of its support to embattled Attorney General Ken Paxton, who outpolled George P. Bush 2,041 to 508. Statewide, Paxton won the nomination by a 68% to 32% count.
He will face Rochelle Mercedes Garza, who won 63% of the votes statewide. Joe Jaworski won Wood County 135-134.
Dawn Buckingham won the GOP nomination to replace Bush as land commissioner. She took Wood County 1,575 to 854 for Tim Westley and she had 69% of the state vote.
The Democratic candidate will be Jay Kleberg, who took Wood County 160-109. He had 53% of the state vote to defeat Sandragrace Martinez.
Wayne Christian will seek reelection to the Texas Railroad Commission after winning the Republican nomination with 65%. He polled 1,574 in Wood County to 904 for Sarah Stogner.
In the other Democratic runoffs statewide, Mike Collier polled 156 votes to 116 for Michelle Beckley in Wood County for lieutenant governor, and Janet T. Dudding had 206 votes to 60 for Angel Luis Vega for the nomination for comptroller of public accounts. She had 61.4% of the state vote. Collier won statewide 263,503 to 217,398.
For two local precinct chairs, Liz Smith won Prec. 2-2 over John van Compernolle 189-78. Jennifer Pope won Prec. 3-3 219 to 58 over Sharona Harguess.
No other local elections were on the ballot.
