Union Hill wins bidistrict, advances to area
The Union Hill Bulldogs dispatched Milford 68-22 in Eustace Friday to become bi-district champions. The win sets up a second-round playoff battle against the Aquilla Cougars.
Union Hill used a prolific passing attack and a staunch defense to build a 15-0 lead after one quarter. The Bulldogs scored four times in the second quarter to open an insurmountable lead.
EJ Mowery tossed three touchdown passes in the second quarter, including a 50-yard connection to Eli Mendoza. Mowery added a touchdown on a scramble. At the half, Union Hill led 47-14.
Payton Dunn opened the third quarter with a long kick-off return. Mowery then scored on a keeper.
The teams exchanged scores before Mowery hit Mitch Mobley over the middle with a scoring toss which called the game due to the 45-point margin.
The Aquilla Cougars call Hill County home, midway between Hillsboro and Waco, just west of I-35. Aquilla and Union Hill will take the field on Friday, Nov. 22 in Mabank. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
