Walmart food recall includes Mineola

Posted

Following a recall initiated by SunFed Produce, LLC, Walmart Inc. has voluntarily recalled Marketside fresh cut cucumber slices, produced in select stores, due to the potential for Salmonella contamination. The recall was initiated because this product may contain recalled whole cucumbers supplied by SunFed Produce, LLC of Rio Rico, Ariz., which initiated a recall after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) notified SunFed that the cucumbers described above were associated with reported salmonellosis illnesses between Oct. 12-Nov. 15.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism entering the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. Symptoms of salmonellosis usually start six hours to six days after infection and last four to seven days.

The Marketside fresh cut cucumber slices, produced in select stores, were available at 34 Walmart stores located in Texas, including these in the area:

Mineola, Lindale, Canton, Gilmer, Greenville, Kaufman, Longview, Sulphur Springs and Tyler (2 stores).
