Winnsboro rained threes on the Mineola Lady Jackets in the regional quarterfinal playoffs Monday en route to a 68-41 win at Longview High School.

The Lady Raiders will be returning to familiar territory at this weekend’s regional tournament where they will be joined by Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill.

The district was guaranteed two regional teams when all four 13-3A playoff teams advanced to the third round.

Four Winnsboro players sank six three-pointers in the first quarter to stake Winnsboro to a 23-9 lead.

Four more threes came in the second quarter as 30 of Winnsboro’s 38 first-half points came from behind the arc. Three of those were contributed by three additional players, giving the Lady Raiders seven players with at least one 3-pointer in the half.

Mineola managed to limit the damage from all-state senior post Faith Acker, who had just two points at the break.

But in the evenly-played third quarter, she contributed eight of Winnsboro’s 14 points. Mineola had 13.

After Macy Fischer’s five points helped the Lady Jackets to keep pace early, Winnsboro pulled away with its deadly outside shooting. Paris Spigner added two baskets in the first period.

After Kyra Jackson opened Mineola scoring in the second quarter, Winnsboro struck for three more threes to build the lead to 32-14. Macy Fischer added a basket and two free throws and sister Mylee added two baskets to complete the Lady Jacket scoring as they trailed 38-19 at the break.

Sophia Hogue got Mineola off to a good start with a 3-point play and a basket, and Jayla Jackson’s basket got the lead down to 40-27.

But by the end of the period the Winnsboro lead grew to 20 at 52-32. The lead was no less than 17 the rest of the way, as Winnsboro pulled away with the final nine points of the game.

The Lady Jackets were 0-3 against the Lady Raiders.

Macy Fischer led Mineola with 12 points, Kyra Jackson, Jayla Jackson, Paris Spigner and Mylee Fischer each had six and Hogue five.
