A blast of wintry precipitation and sub-freezing temperatures Wednesday through Friday shut down much of Wood County late last week.
All public schools in the county suspended classes on Thursday and Friday, and high school basketball games were rescheduled with Mineola, Hawkins and Winnsboro playing their games Saturday while Alba-Golden moved the girls to Monday for senior night and the boys to Wednesday.
The freezing rain, sleet and some snow also shut down the county courthouse both days as well as city halls.
Several events during that time and into Saturday were also postponed.
Thursday’s public forum concerning Mineola school facility plans was moved to Monday, while the Mineola Economic Development Corp. meeting Feb. 3 was delayed one week.
The Mineola Kiwanis Club’s annual chili cookoff was moved from Feb. 5 to Feb. 19, and the Mineola Historical Museum’s program by the Pleasant Hill Quilt Club was delayed one month to March 5.
The vaccination clinic scheduled at Mineola City Hall Feb. 3 was postponed until the 9th.
