Wood County added in second round of federal disaster storm declarations

Wood County was added in the second round of federal disaster declarations issued for the Texas winter storm.

President Joe Biden initially identified 77 Texas counties and then added 31 others Monday. County Judge Lucy Hebron and Mineola Mayor Kevin White issued local declarations.

The declarations allow Wood County individuals to access federal relief.

Residents should self-report any damage with the Texas Division of Emergency Management.

It is a statewide effort to collect damage assessments so that additional counties may be added to the declaration.

“Reporting damage to the Texas Division of Emergency Management is a voluntary activity, is not a substitute for reporting damage to an insurance agency, and does not guarantee disaster relief assistance,” according to the governor’s office.

“I urge Texans to fill out the Self Reporting Damage Survey and provide crucial information on the winter weather impacts to their home or property,” said Governor Abbott. “The information gleaned from this survey will help our state identify the full impact of this winter weather and help emergency management better serve Texans,” Gov. Greg Abbott said.

Hebron encouraged residents to get their assessments in as soon as possible.

“If you have insurance and are applying for disaster assistance, you must also file a claim with your insurance company as soon as possible,” a Federal Emergency Management Agency news release stated.
