Deputy McKenzie Chandler stopped a vehicle on Hwy. 154.  As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver was reaching down to his right side as if he was trying to conceal something. Chandler asked the driver to step out of the vehicle. As he did, Chandler observed a hypodermic syringe with a clear liquid substance in it. The driver was detained and admitted the substance to be methamphetamine. The passenger admitted there was more methamphetamines at their residence. Chandler and Sgt. Austin Melbourn went to their residence and upon consent, located the rest of the methamphetamines. Shana Leanne Earle, 30, of Yantis and Kevin Lee Wood, 33, of Yantis were arrested for possession of a controlled substance, PG 1, more than one gram and less than four grams.

Deputy Jaclyn Skinner conducted a traffic stop on FM 778. The driver and passenger were identified.  During the stop, Deputy Skinner believed criminal activity to be occurring, so she asked for consent to search the vehicle. Canine Major was deployed and made a positive alert. Contraband was found in the vehicle and a citation was issued for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sgt. Jeremy Smith was dispatched to CR 1336 for a possible burglary in progress. The reporting parties noticed things moved around on the property and drove around the residence where they noticed a vehicle with a trailer. Two men got into the vehicle and left. The case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Division.

Deputy Chandler made a traffic stop on FM 2966. When Chandler turned on his emergency lights, the driver threw out a baggie with a white substance. Other deputies were able to locate the baggie.  Antonio DeWayne Berry, 37, of Quitman was arrested for manufacturing/delivery of a controlled substance PG 1 more than four grams and less than 200 grams, tamper/fabricate physical evidence with intent to impair, unlawful carry of a weapon and possession of marijuana two oz or less.

March 27

Deputy David Tipps checked on a vehicle parked on the shoulder of PR 6322. The vehicle was occupied by a man who said the vehicle had run out of gas and the owner had walked to the gas station to get gas.  While talking with the occupant, Deputy Tipps noticed a pill bottle in the vehicle and asked the occupant about it. The occupant handed Deputy Tipps the bottle, at which time Deputy Tipps saw that the bottle did not contain pills but a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine. Glen Lee McGill, 57, of Quitman was arrested for possession of a controlled substance PG 1 less than one gram.

March 28

Sgt. Smith met with an individual in the sheriff’s office lobby about a sexual assault of a child. From speaking with the reporting party, it is believed there are several victims in the case. The report has been forwarded to CID.

Deputy Croney was patrolling CR 2298 when he observed the back door of a residential construction site being opened. He made contact with the owner, who stated property was missing. The report will be forwarded for further investigation.

March 29

Deputy Corbin Hanner was dispatched to CR 1941 for a dog bite. The reporting party stated her two dogs got into a fight and when she attempted to break it up, one of the dogs bit her.

March 30

Deputy Hanner and Deputy Cole Hudson responded to PR 5808 for a possible disturbance. Dispatch stated they received a 911 text message from a location. They made contact with a minor who stated his dad was inside passed out. The minor’s mother came and picked up the child.
