Yantis voters handily approve attendance credits

Yantis school district voters easily approved the attendance credit election last Tuesday, Oct. 4.

By a 68-5 vote, the district will basically be able to continue business as usual as a Robin Hood school district.

Such districts are identified by the state as property rich and must return a portion of their tax revenues to the state in order to help fund so-called property poor districts.

By allowing the district to purchase attendance credits with tax revenue, the district does not face harsher measures such as allowing another district to annex some of its property for tax purposes or consider consolidation with a neighboring district.

Numerous districts have held similar elections in recent years and have gained the same type of approval.
