Yellowjackets too much for Bulldogs
The Quitman Bulldogs hoped to take some momentum from their buzzer-beating win over Eustace into Mineola when they came to face the Yellowjackets Friday. Mineola never allowed them out of the gate, as the Yellowjackets clobbered the Bulldogs, 78-30.
In the first quarter of action, the Mineola full-court press produced four steals and forced a 5-second turnover. Quitman was whistled twice for 3-second lane violations and missed two foul shots.
Mineola led 17-2 after one quarter as six Yellowjackets scored.
The lead was 43-12 at the half with all eight Yellowjackets who suited up getting points.
The Yellowjackets exerted their will over the Bulldogs at every turn. It was a dominating win.
By quarter, Mineola outscored the visitors as follows: first quarter (+15), second quarter (+16), third quarter (+8), fourth quarter (+9).
Braelyn Gereonte scored 16 poitns for Mineola, Caden Rupert 13, Colton McMahon 11 and Zane Strange and Aidan Shepherd nine each.
Bryson Hobbs had nine and Klayton Meadows eight for Quitman.
Mineola is yet in a playoff hunt with three games to play. After traveling to Edgewood and Malakoff, Mineola will host Winona Tuesday, Feb. 11 for a game which could determine the fourth playoff spot.
The Bulldogs have a bye Friday and host Edgewood for senior night on Tuesday.
