2019 Dogwood queens crowned

Lucy Brannon was crowned 2019 Miss Dogwood in front of a packed Quitman High School auditorium at the annual pageant on Saturday.

With her new title, she earned the prize of $1,000. Brannon also sold the most tickets in the Miss Dogwood category.

Aliegh Farnham received Miss Dogwood first runner-up and a prize of $500. For the Junior Miss competition (sixth through eighth grade), Kameran Farnham was crowned and received a prize of $250. Alexus Richey received first runner-up in Junior Miss. Breanna Gilbreath sold the most tickets in the Junior Miss category.

Karley Kernes was crowned Little Miss Dogwood and claimed a prize of $100. Bella Maynard was named first runner-up in addition to selling the most tickets for her category. Timberlyn Wheeler received the Ally Baker Memorial award.

Participants were each judged on interviews, answering questions on stage, wardrobe and being photogenic.

Each of the ticket sales winners receives $50.

The event was hosted and planned by the Quitman Chamber of Commerce. Emcees for the pageant were UT Health Quitman CEO Patrick Swindle and Steve Straznicky of Providential Insurance. Dancers from the Winnsboro Spirit Club also performed at the event.

Before naming the next queens, 2018 Miss Dogwood Madalyn Whitehurst, Junior Miss Rhiana Bradshaw and Little Miss Aubrie Davis gave their farewells to the audience.
