4-H’ers honored during annual event
Wood County 4-H members were recently recognized for their accomplishments at their annual awards banquet
Alan De Gorostiza, son of Joe and Ketzie De Gorostiza of Quitman, was honored as the 2021 Wood County 4-H Gold Star recipient. Alan has been in 4-H for six years and has completed entomology, poultry, archery, shooting sports and gardening/horticulture projects. Alan won 2nd place high individual at the State Round-Up entomology ID contest and has served as an entomology teen leader. He has also attended District Leadership Lab and been an officer on the County 4-H Council and the Quitman 4-H Club, as well as volunteering for many community service and promotion activities and events. Prior to the Wood County 4-H banquet, Alan and his parents were also guests at the District 4-H Gold Star Banquet in Nacogdoches where 4-H Gold Star recipients from 22 counties in northeast Texas were recognized.

Addy Bolt - Outstanding Junior Award
Lucas DeGorostiza - 4-H Rookie Award
Hilary Grider-Henk - 4-H Leader of the Year Award
First United Methodist Church/Quitman - Friend of 4-H Award
4-H members receiving jackets (sponsored by Bubba Brumit/Brumit Farms) for having earned grand champion, reserve grand champion or a showmanship award at the 2021 Wood County Jr. Livestock Show were Lola Hayes, Kelsey Newsom, Luke Goforth, Paizlee Swanner and EllieKate Laake.
Other 4-H members recognized for the various levels of participation (not previously mentioned) were Michael Miller, Tristan Brumit, EmmaRose Laake, Wesley Irwin, Maria Brisendine, Michael Brisendine, Hunter Brian, Jackson Wallis, Emily Swan and Kierney Wallis.
4-H Clover Kids who recognized for their involvement were Jake Yeager, Luke Yeager, Emma Schuttler, Daphne Brumit, Zariyha Bumit, Jeremiah Brumit, Josie Brumit, Evie Brumit, Karly Kernes, Gage Henk, Leya Neckar, Skylar Wallace and Tucker Hayes.
