The Alba-Golden Lady Panthers clawed out a solid victory last Tuesday, 42-35 over the Scurry-Rosser Lady Cats.

The Lady Panthers yielded the lead only at 26-27 in the third quarter and 32-33 in the fourth, holding a slight of edge throughout the game.

Alba-Golden struggled, “getting open in the beginning, running our normal offense…it was hard because they were stopping it really easily,” said Bella Crawford, their leading scorer.

With some good halftime adjustments, the court began to open up. Coach Eric Boettcher threw several defensive looks at them, switching up pressure seemingly every time down the floor, a new addition to the Alba-Golden scheme.

“I thought we adjusted well,” said Crawford. “It stopped them up…and it really allowed us to get more open.”

The margin over Scurry-Rosser remained slim until Crawford got two key buckets late in the game and Cacie Lennon went three-of-four from the free throw line to widen the gap.

Kallie Wright visited the charity stripe six times, getting fouled repeatedly driving to the bucket, helping Alba-Golden get into the bonus in both halves.

The more disciplined Lady Panther defense was whistled only five times per half.

Crawford’s point total was 15, Lennon went 6-of-7 from the line with 10 points, Kallie Wright scored eight, Hannah Wright had seven and Crimson Bryant two.
