Alba-Golden junior Brandt Peterson placed seventh overall at the Bradon Lynch Memorial Cross Country Meet at Lone Oak High School Saturday.

His 18:58.97 time in the 5,000-meter run led the Alba-Golden boys to a fifth-place team finish.

Teammates and their respective times were Otis Lee 21:08.28, Drake Duplechain 21:28.13, Hudson Wright 21:32.92, Logan Strong 24:03.88, Zack Morris 25:05.09, Collin Nichols 25:13.33 and Elijah Backer 26:41.89.

Halley Peterson and Emery Deatherage put in strong performances and finished with times of 16:36.05 and 17:26.85, respectively, in the girls 3,200-meter run.

Perhaps the best sports story in the making is a group of 10 young athletes from Alba-Golden Middle School.

They won the junior high girls meet with three finishers in the top ten.

The collection of classmates have been excelling throughout the cross country season and bear close watching as they progress – next year – into high school competition.

Their times at the Lynch Memorial were Jayla Sitar 14:17.84, Briana Ringgold 14:31.94, Callie Campbell 14:32.43, Peyton Clark 15:19.14, Sadie Wright 15:31.40, Averi Stevenson 16:09.75, Sophia Richardson 16:48.19, Harlow Sauceman 18:10.64, Maddie Moore 18:31.37 and Tayla Peterson 20:59.46.
