AGISD board OKs new budget, tax rate
Alba-Golden school board unanimously approved the $11.2 million, 2023-24 budget. Also approved was a tax rate of $.78650 per $100 value Monday.
In the motion to approve the tax rate, board member Mike Ragsdale noted that it represents a 19.66% reduction from the previous year.
Due to the most recent average daily attendance (ADA) used by the state to determine funding, the budget proposal had to accommodate a reduction in state grant of $400,000. Finance Director Kaitlyn Hawley advised that curbing proposed expenditures was necessary to account for the shortfall in ADA.
Hawley also noted that internal distribution changes were taken to ensure each line item remained in the positive side of the ledger.
The board approved Hardy, Cook and Hardy, P.C. of Tyler to audit district finances.
No citizens spoke during a public hearing on the budget.
