AGISD facility study completed

Following last Monday’s school board meeting, Alba-Golden ISD Superintendent Shelby Davidson remarked, “It is truly heartening to watch our students succeed across the whole spectrum of activities offered at Alba-Golden schools.” His remark came upon reflecting on recent successes in the UIL academics, drama, athletics and agriculture.

Along with competitive success, the district is also making progress on infrastructure planning. Davidson revealed that representatives recently completed the facilities study of the Alba-Golden campus. He hopes that the report will be read-out to the school board this summer. It is anticipated that the report will inform further actions on long-term infrastructure improvements.

Davidson reported that improvements were currently underway in two specific areas: the continued fencing project continues apace, and a state grant was just received which will allow re-lamping the elementary school with LED lights.

The board approved eight resignations and four hires for the upcoming school year. Joining the teaching and coaching staff will be Summer Jones, Kimberly McGahee, Josh Neill and Autumn Slavens. Resignations were accepted from Shelley Backer, Sarah Cameron, Michaela Coffman, Cynthia Holbrook, Dana Martin, Wanda Parrish, Walter Ragsdale and Caroline Rea.

The board set the next budget workshop for Thursday, May 9 at 5:30 p.m. In addition to the workshop, the results of the TASB Salary Survey will be revealed at that meeting.

The board also approved the superintendent for authority to negotiate the purchase of property. No further information was available as negotiations on a specific property are pending.

The board recognized Sadie Hurt as the elementary school student of the month. Grayson Hawthorne and Abigail Baldwin were recognized as students of the month from the secondary school.
