Alba-Golden boys win district cross country
The Alba-Golden Boys cross country team are district champions. They secured the title by besting the field last week at the 15-2A district meet at North Hopkins High School.
Led by junior Brandt Peterson – third place finish with a time of 18:10 – the team additionally secured the fifth, ninth, 10th, 13th, 14th and 19th places in the field.
Recorded times were Otis Lee 19:27, Drake Duplechain 20:07, Hudson Wright 20:13, Zack Morris 20:43, Logan Strong 21:00 and Collin Nichols 22:26.
Coach Brad Gibson remarked, “It’s amazing what young athletes can accomplish when they believe they can.”
Lady Panthers Emery Deatherage and Halley Peterson finished the girls varsity 3,200-meter race in times of 16:14 and 16:32 respectively, which garnered them 17th and 19th places.
In an amazing indicator of future accomplishments, the Alba-Golden junior high girls team placed seven of their ten-person team in the top ten finishers. Briana Ringgold took the blue ribbon with a time of 14:03 – a time which would have won the girls varsity race. In fact, five of the Alba-Golden junior high runners would have finished in the varsity top ten.
Class 2A Regionals will take place Tuesday. Oct. 24 in Grand Prairie.
