The Alba-Golden baseball team joined a field of five local schools at the Third Annual Tim Crowder Invitational Baseball Tournament this past weekend. Over three days the Panthers earned victories over John Tyler and Cumberland Academy.
The Panthers opened play against the Gladewater Bears. A strong outing by Alba-Golden hurler Braden Reynolds, who yielded just two earned runs over four innings, was not enough to contain the Bears. Gladewater staged a final inning comeback with six runs to take the win, 10-5. Panther Jacob Dailey went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Dailey recorded a pitching win in the next game against the John Tyler Lions. He threw four innings, giving up just two hits and one unearned run. Braden Reynolds and Tom Mitchell each collected two hits in three plate appearances, while Dylan Arenas’ double drove in two runs.
Alba-Golden dropped the next two games to Brownsboro and Lone Oak, before finishing tourney play with a 3-1 win over Cumberland. Panther Dalton Hendrix picked up the win with a strong performance from the mound. In seven innings he chalked up eight strikeouts and allowed just one hit. Tim Mitchell had another fine performance at the plate, going 2-for-2.
The Panthers’ record is 4-3 on the season. Their next game was scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Avery.
