Annual KidFish draws crowd to Lake Fork
It was a beautiful day for fishing Saturday as 300 kids showed up with their parents and guardians for the annual KidFish held the first Saturday in June. The area at the headquarters of Sabine River Authority was packed as kids fished from the banks of the lake.
Close to 300 fishing rods were given away and several bicycles among other prizes earned by the competitors. Participants were also offered a free meal.
“We had a great crowd and everyone seemed to really enjoy the day,” Wood County Sheriff Kelly Cole said. “When you count all the kids who fished and the parents and family members who showed up we had 450 to 500 people there Saturday. I want to thank all the sponsors and appreciate everybody coming out and hope everybody had a wonderful time.”
It had rained early Saturday, but once the participants started fishing the weather cleared and made for a great morning of catching fish and vying for prizes. KidFish has been celebrated in Wood County for over two decades.
