Plant lovers celebrating the return of sunny weather are invited to stop by the upcoming spring sale, organized by the Wood County Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.

This much-anticipated event is set for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13 in the gardens surrounding the historic 1869 Stinson House that serves as the cornerstone of the arboretum, 175 Governor Hogg Pkwy. In Quitman.

Organizers are hoping for a solid turnout.

“I love our plant sale,” said Lin Grado, garden manager. “We work with the best local growers, who make sure that the plants we sell are Texas tough.”

The members-only presale opportunity is planned for 4-6 p.m. April 12. People can join on-line or Friday at the sale.

Shoppers can expect an array of healthy nursery stock, featuring colorful annuals, flowering shrubs and long-blooming perennials to help attract pollinators.

Inventory will be replenished before the actual sale kicks off Saturday.

Annual memberships start at $25, and members receive a discount on plant purchases.

“You can be assured that 100 percent of the profits from the sale are used to maintain and improve the gardens at the Arboretum and the Stinson House,” said Deanna Caldwell, Friends of the Arboretum president.

The spring plant sale is one of many projects offered throughout the year at the arboretum, a 23-acre garden venue that also features a walking trail, special gardens, tribute plantings and Monarch way station.
