Army of helpers spreads good news across county

Posted

The UM (United Methodist) Army of youth from various Texas churches joined forces last week to complete a variety of assistance projects in the northern part of Wood County including the Quitman area.

UM Army members from Keller, Coppell and China Spring came to Quitman to serve residents in Wood County.

The 75 participants were placed in seven teams which completed 28 projects throughout the week.

Quitman First United Methodist Youth Coordinator  Joseph Goodson said, “75 people from Central up to the Northeast Texas region came together to do what some said couldn’t be done. The volunteer youth and adults took time out of their summer and came to our area to serve those in need. As the director, I knew that we took on projects that were daunting to say the least. I also knew that if we remained focused and faithful, we could accomplish many things.

“It has been an honor and privilege to say on behalf of First United Methodist Church of Quitman, thank you for allowing the teams to come into your homes and show the grace of Christ just as grace has been extended to them. First UMC Keller, Coppell UMC, First UMC China Spring wish to say thank you and may you be blessed by all the hard work and love expressed through the youth and adults.”

Big projects were completed at several homes in Quitman, Yantis, Winnsboro and at Holiday Villages just west of Quitman.

The  youth stayed at the church on East Lane in Quitman and used the shower facilities at Delbert Ballard Memorial Gym during their stay.
