Jimmy Rushing, right, and longtime friend Jerry Rapp stand inside the new Broadway Barber Shop exhibit behind the Mineola Historical Museum. Rushing, who retired earlier this year, donated the contents of his barber shop to the museum. The exhibit replicates Rushing’s shop, which he opened in 1961, when he sold haircuts for 50 cents. It features an antique Belmont barber chair, old barbering equipment, walls full of memorabilia, an antique cash register, an old-time fishing lure collection, a shoe shine station, and many other items of historical note.
