Benjamin Gordon Cathey Jr.

QUITMAN-Funeral services for Benjamin Gordon Cathey Jr., 67 of Quitman, were held Dec. 4 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with Tim Yeager and Norman Hicks officiating.

Burial followed at Quitman City Cemetery.

Mr. Cathey died Nov. 30, 2018, in Tyler. He was born Nov. 16, 1951 in Kingsport, Tenn., to Benjamin Gordon Sr. and Mary Cathey.

He graduated from Quitman High School and went on to attain a degree in HVAC repair, which he utilized to build Cathey Air Conditioning. He was a Christian and served his community by serving as president of the Quitman Chamber of Commerce, president of the Quitman Youth Foundation, president of the Quitman City Cemetery Association, Honorary Santa many years for Quitman Fire Department, secretary for the Wood County Farm Bureau and honored Quitman Citizen of the year for 2000.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Shelly Cathey, Quitman; son Bryce Cathey, Quitman; daughter, Mary Larkin Cathey, Austin; brother, John Robert Cathey, Dallas; and many close relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or local charity of your choosing.
