A confident Lady Jackets softball team gave up a big first inning to the host Rains Ladycats and fell 7-1 on Friday.
Mineola had hopes of upsetting the talented Rains squad, but they gave up five runs on four hits, one free pass and an error in the first inning.
The first inning aside, the game was a tightly-played affair.
Rains added two runs in the fifth off of a single and a triple, while the Lady Jackets picked up a run in the sixth after Sophia Lopez led off with a single. Lopez went 2-for-3 on the night.
With two ace hurlers on the mound, Anna Westberry for Mineola and Chanlee Oakes for Rains, a tight game was expected.
Unlike their first meeting of the year, both teams hit the ball solidly. Mineola recorded seven hits while Rains collected 11.
The Ladycats were able to produce multi-hit innings and capitalize once they got runners on base. Mineola left five runners on base.
