Bulldogs cruise over Kemp
The Quitman Bulldogs were running on all cylinders Friday night as they romped past Kemp 42-10 at Bud Moody Field.
The Bulldog defense dominated any attempt Kemp made running the ball. The Bulldog secondary completely controlled Kemp’s attempt at a passing game. Quitman’s rushing game controlled the clock and the scoreboard.
The Bulldogs held the Yellowjackets on their first position to a three and out. The ‘Dogs took over and immediately ran right at the Kemp defense. After Landon Green gained 13 yards setting Quitman up on the Kemp 27, Klayton Meadows took a handoff and behind perfect blocking from the offensive line, ran straight up the middle for a score and a 7-0 lead after the Carlos Flores point-after kick.
“It was a good team win for us, but we still have some things we need to work on in order to have the success we want to have,” Head Coach Shane Webber said. “We were able to get a lot of kids in the ball game, and those back-ups will be called on down the line. Jace Peek continues to do a great job for us, and our offensive line did a good job for our running backs.”
Meadows had 95 yards on nine carries and scored three times. He scored from 27, 23 and 16 yards. Green added 82 tough yards of 16 totes. Carter Smith added 22 yards on three carries and scored on a 52-yard pass play from Kamron Crockett which gave the Bulldogs a 36-10 lead with just under a minute left in the first half.
The second half was Quitman taking over defensively. Kemp tried every offensive maneuver they could but to no avail as the Bulldogs held them scoreless.
“Kemp has a good 3A program and is rebuilding so we feel good about the win,” Webber added. “Ore City will be tough this week, but we will be ready.”
The Bulldogs also got a defensive score when Mikey Pickering recovered a Kemp fumble on a muffed punt opportunity. The score gave Quitman a 28-2 lead prior to the final score of the half by Smith.
Quitman will face Ore City for homecoming this week. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. with homecoming activities beginning before the game at 7 p.m.
