The Quitman Bulldogs boys varsity track team comfortably walked away with the Mineola Yellowjacket Relays last Friday. The Bulldogs were buoyed by their relay teams who took the blue ribbon in the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays, and second place in the 4 x 200m relay.

Additional first-place finishes by Quitman athletes were: Carter Smith 400m dash (52.77), Bryson Hobbs 110m hurdles (16.86), and Dakota Jimenez 800m run (2:02.25).

The 4 x 100m team of Carter Smith, Dakota Reynolds, Matthew Ingram and Xavier Hancock ran a 44.41, while the 4 x 400m team of Christian Plata, Smith, Dylan Eppars, and Hayden Breding recorded a 3:37.25.

The Bulldogs picked up additional points through the efforts of Eppars in the 400m dash, Braxton Birchfield in the pole vault and 300m hurdles,  Hancock in the 100m dash, and Christian Plata in the 1600m and 3200m runs.

Mineola finished in fourth place largely through the efforts of field event competitors. Caden Rupert claimed the long jump crown with a leap of 19-6. Rupert had a busy day adding second-place finishes in the triple jump and high jump.

Mineola’s other scorers were all second-place finishes. They were: Braydon Alley in the 100m dash, Caden Beck long jump, Trey Rushing discus and Chance Williams pole vault.

The Canton Eaglettes secured the girls varsity division with Mineola finishing second and Quitman seventh.

First place finishers for the Lady Jackets were: Raylie Peebles 800m run (2:23.75); Jaylee Nevarez, Clara Marlow, Olivia Hughes, and Abbie Dobbs in the 4 x 200m relay (1:52.71); and Peebles, Hughes, Caroline Castleberry and Carmen Carrasco in the 4 x 400m relay (4:12.37).

Braleigh Wood was the top-performer for the Lady Bulldogs, winning second place in both the 800m and 1600m runs.

Of special note was the performance of the Mineola JV girls track team. They won their division by a comfortable 45 points and scored in all but one event.

The young Lady Jackets swept the three relay races, and additionally captured blue ribbons in the 200m dash, 400m dash, shot put and triple jump.
