Carolyn Jean Metcalf, 90, of Mineola, passed away on March 3, 2024. Carolyn was born in Greenville and grew up in Nevada, Tex. and Garland. She was a schoolteacher for the Richardson Independent School District for 30 years. A beloved elementary school teacher, her legacy and commitment to shaping the future of so many young lives is immeasurable.

Carolyn lived a good, long, productive life and was loved by so many. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mineola and very involved in community support and activities in her retirement, particularly the Texas Retired Teachers/School Personnel of Richardson ISD and Wood County. She enjoyed reading, traveling and supporting her Dallas Cowboys and her Dallas Mavericks. Carolyn was also blessed with long-lasting friendships of so many throughout her life. Carolyn and her family were particularly blessed this past year by her many Mineola friends and neighbors and the wonderful caretakers of Autumn Wind Assisted Living in Mineola and Reflections Hospice in Quitman.

Of course, the people she loved most were her family. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Mid Mayo of Garland. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 70 years, Daniel Lee Metcalf; and her two children, Kyle Andrew Metcalf and his wife, Dyana, of Tampa, Fla. and Katherine Lee Metcalf of Poetry. She is also survived by the absolute love of her life, her granddaughter, Kyndal Brand Metcalf.

There will be a celebration of Carolyn’s life scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Carolyn’s honor to the following, or to a charity of your choice:
