CenterPoint residential gas customers in Mineola can expect to see a 7% increase in their natural gas bills after a rate increase goes into effect in July. That means a residential customer who now pays $22.45 per month for gas will see the bill rise to $24.01.
Non-residential customers also will see higher gas charges. Small commercial and institutional customers should expect a 7% increase, and large volume users will see a 13% hike, according to information maintained by the city of Mineola.
On March 28, CenterPoint filed for an increase in gas rates under the Gas Reliability Infrastructure Program (GRIP). Ordinarily, the new rate would go into effect 60 days from the date of the filing. On April 22, however, the city of Mineola exercised its prerogative to suspend the proposed effective date for 45 days as it does due diligence on the filing. Instead of an effective date of May 29, the extra 45 days pushes the effective date to July 11.
