Funeral services for Laverne Roberts, 83, of Alba, were held September 22, 2015, at First Baptist Church, Alba, with Bro. Bill Roberts and Bro. Kelly Burton officiating.

Burial was held in Pilgrim Rest No. 2 Cemetery, Golden.

Mrs. Roberts passed away

September 18, 2015, in a Mineola nursing home.

She was born Wednesday, February 24, 1932, in Frost, to the late Eurben and Eunice Brackeen Hightower. She was a homemaker, and a member of Eastern Star and the First Baptist Church of Alba.

Survivors include her daughter, Mendy Joiner of Alba; two sisters, Deloris Rae and David of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Dorothy Harris of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers-in-law, Bill Roberts and Leo Roberts; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, Harvey Edward Roberts, sons, Ricky Roberts and Danny Roberts; daughter, Kim Roberts; brothers, Clyde Hightower, Rex Hightower, and Wayne Hightower; sisters, Julia Hightower, Juanita Blessing, and Norma Lee; and infant sibling twins.

Special Olympics returns in style

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
