Charlie Albert Coburn 1940-2024

Charlie Albert Coburn, 83, passed away on March 25, 2024 in Quitman.  

He was born the son of Tavie Madewell and Robert Gordon Coburn on Nov. 25, 1940 in Dallas. He married Alana “Sam” Marlow Coburn on March 27, 1976 and she preceded him in death. 

Charlie was also preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Coburn; and daughter, Cynthia Lynn Davis. Charlie is survived by his children, daughter Monica Leigh Coburn and son Charles Wayne Coburn (Jamie); his two nephews and one niece. He has five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Charlie started his career as a truck driver for Trinity Moser Steel in Dallas. He later retired and bought property with his wife Alana in Quitman in 1987. They also purchased Wood County Septic. 

Charlie was an avid hunter in his younger years and later in life enjoyed working/relaxing on their farm.  He was a member of the Yantis Masonic Lodge #382. Charlie also had a great passion for square dancing.  He was a member of East Texas Square & Round Dance Association, The Yam Jammers and The Mineola Railers and honorary member of the Pea Pickers.

Charlie Coburn was well known in Quitman and very well respected by all.   

Charlie took great pride in opening the Country Kitchen Café every morning to see coffee was made for whomever walked through the door. Charlie considered the owners and employees as a second family. 

Charlie was a loving husband and a loving father. Charlie will be truly missed by his family and friends.

Cremation has been accorded. Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion Post #296 in Mineola on April 7 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations for final expenses.
