Church honors first responders, public officials

New Hope Baptist Church honored all Precinct 2 first responders and elected officials Sunday.

Jean Mabe organized the service, and the public servants were presented with a pack of gum for going the EXTRA mile, a picture gram, and a banner.

After the service, the public officials were treated to a barbecue lunch provided by Courtney and Sabrina Keel among many others in the church.

Those in attendance were Sheriff Tom Castloo and Deputy Andrew Rapp, Chief Javier Ortega and Mineola Fire Dept. members, Mike Spanko representing Hainesville Fire Dept., District Attorney Angela Albers, Precinct 2 Constable Kelly Smith, Commissioner Jerry Gaskill, and Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Janae Holland.

Also honored was Colin Kovic for his service in law enforcement with Wood County Adult Probation.

“Judge Jeff Fletcher and Judge Lucy Hebron sent letters thanking us for the service but they had prior engagements out of town. We had a great service honoring these men and women this Labor Day Weekend,” New Hope Pastor Michael Mize said.
