Mineola appoints Luke Blackwell as acting athletic director
Mineola School District has announced that Luke Blackwell will serve as the acting athletic director and head coach for the Yellowjackets.
Joe Drennon accepted the athletic director and head football coach position in 5A Hallsville last week.
Blackwell, the Yellowjacket assistant head coach and defensive coordinator, was instrumental in the success of the football program the past three years and his leadership is recognized in guiding the team to the 2016 State Football Championship, Superintendent Kim Tunnell said.
Blackwell will assume the responsibilities immediately as Drennon transitions to his new role.
The position of athletic director and head coach requires a 10-day posting period to receive applications and Mineola ISD will name the athletic director following the required process.
