Quitman baseball alumni game set for Feb. 25

The 2007 region semi-finalist Quitman Bulldog baseball team will be honored at this year’s 11th Annual Alumni Baseball Game at Tom Brady Field. Activities at the Dawson Park site are set for Saturday, Feb. 25, with activities beginning at noon, starting with a Home Run Derby.

Following the honoring of the 2007 Bulldogs, a seven-inning game will be played between alumni players and the current Bulldog varsity team.

“Please come join us for this fundraiser. All proceeds will go to the baseball program,” Coach Hayland Hardy said. “We are excited to have the 2007 team coming back to be honored. There will be a lot of fun, food, baseball and reminiscing!”

The 2007 team ended the regular season with a 10-2 District 20-2A record and second place finish behind Grand Saline. The Bulldogs posted a 13-14 season record that year but the tenacious Bulldog team surprised all naysayers by winning their first three playoff games before falling to a powerful Woodville team 4-3.

The Quitman Fellowship of Christian Athletes Tournament will be held at Tom Brady Field March 9-11. Quitman will host Mt. Pleasant-Chapel Hill, North Hopkins, Big Sandy, Mineola, Harleton, Mt. Vernon and Winona.

The Bulldogs begin district action March 24 at home against Grand Saline.

Interested alumni can register early or at the game. If registering at the game, the deadline is at 10 a.m. For more information, contact Hardy at 903-569-7479 or hardyh@quitmanisd.net.
