Members of the Elizabeth Denton English Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, gathered at the Mineola post office to send Christmas boxes to the “Old Hickory” unit 1-113th, of the 30th Armor Brigade Combat Team at Fort Buehring, Kuwait.

The 30th ABCT took over the mission in Kuwait called Operation Spartan Shield.

The “Iron Brigade” will return to Fort Carson, Colo. ending a successful deployment.

The 30th ABCT, headquartered in Clinton, N.C., has a long and distinguished history dating back to World War One. Their equipment includes the Abram Main Battle Tank and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

Each box was heavily filled with an assortment of candies, snacks, personal hygiene, dental and numerous assorted items suggested by retired Lt. Colonel Barbara Vogl, chairperson of the chapter’s Project Patriot Committee.

Donations were made by chapter members and also included 25 dental kits donated by Mineola dentist and retired Air Force Captain, Kyle Weedon.
