DAR hears tales of the first first family

Members of the Elizabeth Denton English Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, were enthralled by the visitor to their recent chapter meeting.

Welba Dorsey presented her reenactment of George and Martha Washington’s neighbor which was filled with anecdotes and gossip about the nation’s first president.  This meeting marked the beginning of the chapter’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The National Society has been in the forefront of the upcoming celebration as Honorary Past President General, Lynn Forney Young, was appointed to the US Semiquincentennial Commission in 2016, establishing the programs for all chapters to participate.

DAR chapters around the country are already observing this historic celebration which will culminate July 4, 2026.

The DAR’s focus is on honoring patriots who fought, and in many cases, gave their lives and even fortunes, to establish the freedoms enjoyed today.

Jenniffer Hudson Connors, Regent of the Chapter, welcomed Dorsey and encouraged all members to actively participate in this celebration.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all American citizens to look for ways to honor our great country, to learn more about our individual heritage, and to celebrate the achievements we have accomplished in the last 250 years,” she said.
