DAR members clean veterans’ headstones

Posted

Recently two groups of members of the Elizabeth Denton English Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution spent an early morning cleaning 40 veterans’ headstones at Mineola City Cemetery and Hopewell Cemetery in Winnsboro.

Honoring veterans by cleaning their headstones has become an annual service activity performed on or around Oct. 11, the anniversary date of the 1890 founding of the DAR and named an official Day of Service.

Volunteering on projects which embody historic preservation, education and patriotism is an active on-going national effort as DAR members perform thousands of hours yearly in community service.
