DAR planning old fashioned 4th

The Daughters of the American Revolution will host an old-fashioned Independence Day Celebration at the Jim Hogg Park Honeymoon Cottage in Quitman July 4 from 10 a.m.-noon.

The Elizabeth Denton English Chapter will host free tours of the cottage along with lemonade and cookies. They will also share with visitors how their ancestors supported the cause of freedom during the American Revolution.

Local musicians will provide music on the porch. Come and listen or bring an instrument and join in.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
