Dr. Bill Knight  1933-2023

Dr. Bill Knight, former superintendent of Mineola ISD, passed away June 3, 2023, at age 89. He spent his youth in Parker County with his tenant farmer family. He did a stint in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After his time in the Army he came back to Texas and found the love of his life, Shirlene, at Weatherford College. When he finished college with a degree in education from East Texas State, he taught science and eventually got his doctorate in educational administration. He then moved to Mineola with Shirlene and his three sons to take over as superintendent of schools. The contributions, influence and impact he had on the school system and the town of Mineola are far too numerous to list. His true legacy is the love he shared with a grateful community and family.

We will all miss him terribly, but we’ll always remember his sharp intellect, endless supply of energy, and abundant love for Christ. Family was everything to him and we will remember him for his sometimes goofy sense of humor, his special love for children, and his ability to never meet a stranger.

Services will be at the First Methodist Church of Mineola at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 30. He is survived by wife, Shirlene Knight; and sons, Matt, Scott and Joe Knight. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Roy and Martha Knight Foundation, https://rmkfoundation.com/ a foundation he set up to provide scholarships for college and trade school students, will be greatly appreciated.
