Wood County Genealogy Society will meet Monday, June 19 at 5 p.m. at the Quitman Public Library, 202 E. Goode St.

Speaker will be Randy Dunn, mayor of Quitman. His topic will be “What’s Happening in Quitman.”

Dunn grew up on a cotton farm in Lubbock. He attended New Deal ISD and studied at Texas Tech University 1972-1973.

Dunn and his family moved to Quitman July 1, 1986. He has been married for 47 years, and they have two children, six grandchildren and one step great-granddaughter.

Dunn has served in numerous community capacities including:

Mayor Pro Tem 2017-2019, Alderman 2007-2017, Quitman Development Corp 2004-2021, Texas Farm Bureau Ins. Co. 1983-2016, East Texas Council of Government 2021 – present.

He has served as mayor since 2021.

Special Olympics returns in style

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
