Family continues tradition of helping animal causes

The fourth annual work day and donation event benefiting Animal Protection of East Texas (APET) in memory of Jeff Gannon is Sunday, Oct. 8 at the animal shelter off west U.S. Hwy. 80 in Mineola.

Workers will assist with whatever clean up and maintenance needs the shelter identifies from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as well as accept donations of supplies and cash.

The event was begun in 2020 on the first anniversary of Gannon’s death in 2019. The 1997 Mineola graduate was an animal lover, and the family honors his memory by working to assist local animal protection efforts.

Suggested donations for APET can be found at https://apetshelter.org/donations.html. Items can be dropped off at the shelter the day of the event or anytime there and at the thrift store locations in Mineola (S. Pacific) and Winnsboro.
